Zoom out, pan, zoom in, possible?

Postby peejayw » Mon May 04, 2009 5:25 pm

New to PSG and fell a bit overwhelmed!
Is it possible to start a slide from a zoomed-in position, zoom out and then pan across to zoom in on another location on the slide?
Many thanks.

Yes, in a nutshell you would need to use several slides, each one using a new action, to get it to work. Use a cut transition between each slide, coordinate your pics so the end of one slide is the same as the beginning of the next one (in the motion window). For example, first slide, zoom in, second slide, hold for a second, third slide, zoom out, fourth pan over, fifth zoom in.

First welcome aboard! Enjoy the ride.

Okay, sure you can do what you want but you can't do it all on one slide. It will look like you did it that way but the "trick" is to simply break the process into steps and create the effect you want. If I get what you're doing you'll need several copies of the slide all arranged in sequence. The transitions between them is set to "cut" with a zero time (there's no transition at all).

1. Base slide zoomed in on point one. Hold this (slide time) one for long enough people see it.
2. This one uses the motion tab. Start is exactly the prior one's state -- there's a "match" command on the motion effects tab just for that. The ending state is zoomed all the way out. Set the time for whatever you want the zoom process to be.
3. (option) You may want to hold the zoomed out, if so, just copy #2 and make start and end positions the same.
4. If you used #3, this one starts as a copy. Either way start position matches #2's end. End position is where ever the pan needs to take you--slide time controls speed of the pan.
5. This starts as a copy of #4 -- now change the end position to be zoomed in on the second point.
6. Copy #5 and make copy the end position to the start position so there's no motion, hold it for however long they need to see what's there.

That's it! The principle here is really simple once you see it--just break the complex action into a series of simple, single actions and do each simple one on a slide. With the cuts between them they'll flow seamlessly. Just make sure you use the match command to get the start and/or ends exactly matched up so it does flow seamlessly. If you see something "jump," you missed one (don't ask how I know that so well ;) )

Hope that helps, ask more questions if that's not clear or doesn't seem to get what you want.
